The first thing I can cross of my list of 100 things to do this year is- go to a hockey game. On January 26th, Chris and I went to Cleveland with my BFF and her hubby. First stop was to tour "A Christmas Story" house & museum. You know, I used to love that movie when I was a kid and then I just got sick of it and didn't care to ever see it again!! I haven't actually watched it in a long time, but I'm starting to wonder, if I did watch it again, I would probably enjoy it! Especially after the tour. It was really neat to be able to see the house and interact with everything. I had a lot of fun!! And of course, I bought some souvenirs as well!! I can't go anywhere without buying some kind of reminder of my trip!!
After the tour, we went out to eat. We went to Noodlecat. It was my first time there and I can't wait to go again!! Just thinking about it, is making me hungry for more noodles!!! (If anyone knows anything about me, then they know I am a soup junkie. I love soup, I love noodles!! I could eat it all day, every day!!)
Next up, the hockey game!! This was not my first hockey game. I actually went to my first game in 1992! I saw the Cleveland Lumberjacks play. They were an IHL (international hockey league) team. Every time I hear that "Lumberjack" song by Jackyl I think of that hockey game!!
The second hockey game I ever went to was The Lake Erie Monsters in April 2010. Chris and I had a such a fun time at that game. The whole day was a blast.
On our way home from the game, I remember having visions of sheriff cars and ambulances at my parents' house. I don't know why. I just had this fear that something bad had happened. Oddly enough, every time I go somewhere (out of town) I fear something will happen. Like because I am not there. I don't know why I have those feelings. Thankfully I don't worry so much anymore, because I do KNOW that bad things don't happen just because I am not around! Maybe it was after that night, that I stopped worrying so much.
The next day my mom stopped by on her way home from church. She asked if we had heard the news? My brother was in a car accident. He and his 3 passengers were all injured and they didn't know the status of one of his friends. Not something we expected to wake up to. We felt guilty. While we were out having a great time, 4 people we knew were involved in a car accident. My brother was driving and he had the smallest injuries. One of his passengers was in serious condition and another in critical. It was a scary time. Thankfully everyone has since fully recovered.
I wanted to go to a hockey game again, but I had this thought in the back of my mind "the last time we went people we knew were hurt." Like if I go to another game, something bad will happen again. Silly thought, I know but that's the way my mind works.
We get to the game and had such a great time!! Two fights within the first two minutes of game time!! It was a lot of fun!! Our team lost, but that's OK!! After the game, we went home. We survived our night and we didn't wake up to any more disturbing news!!
We're planning on another game for later this month!! I can't wait. You know, I am not a big sports fan, but I have always enjoyed hockey. I remember when I was little my mom would watch hockey. So I guess I get it from her!! She's still a huge hockey fan. I don't watch it like I used to (on TV) or follow the NHL like I used to, but going out to a game (whether minor league or whatever) is really a lot of fun!!
